Ven. Sebastian Rale was a French Jesuit missionary who initially came to Quebec. He then ministered to the Illinois Indians and finally settle in at a mission in Maine. He was shot by the English during the wars between France and England. He died August 23, 1724 in Norrid Gewock, Maine. Ven. Rale ministered to the Abenaki Tribe. He made a dictionary of their language. The manuscript is at the Harvard Library.
